Caring for Your Protective Clothing

June is safety month, and Gempler's is here to remind your maintenance workers when to wear protective clothing, how to care for it, and how to clean and safely dispose of your gear. Your safety doesn't end with wearing the protective clothing, the steps after your employees finish their daily activities is of vital importance to the entire crew and their family's safety! Take a moment to re-familiarize yourself and your crew with proper protective clothing care habits.

From Gempler's Tailgate Training Tips.

Why wear protective clothing?

Personal protective clothing helps protect you from exposure to pesticides or other harmful chemicals. That’s why it's important to keep your protective clothing in good condition. Also be careful to read the label of any pesticides. The law specifies what is on the label is the least amount of clothing needed to be compliant.

Inspecting protective clothing

Carefully inspect personal protective clothing each time you prepare to put it on. Never wear damaged protective clothing, small holes, tears, cracks, changes in color or any other damage needs to be addressed immediately. Thoroughly wash or shower before putting on other clothing, and properly store your clean personal protective clothing after you have finished for the day.

Cleaning protective clothing

At the end of each workday, put your used work clothes in a container until they can be washed. Don't ride home in the clothes you wore while applying pesticides and keep them away from kids and pets. Wash your work clothes separate from other family clothes, and be sure to wear gloves when handling them. Wash at the highest water setting on hot water, twice. Do not place this clothing in the dryer, let them hang and dry outside on a clothesline. Finally clean your washing machine when you are done running it through at least one complete cycle without any clothing in it using detergent and hot water. Share these tips with your employees to keep them and their family, safe! Through the month of June, Gempler's is offering a special deal on safety clothing and equipment.
