James Hockman Recaps the Carolinas GCSA Conference and Show

From the desk of James Hockman, Regional Sales Manager at VGM Club:

Another year, another successful trip to the Carolinas for the annual Carolinas GCSA Conference and Show. VGM Club reps Courtney Donohue, Mike Woltz, and I were all present to spend time with partners and members that fill in our community around the Carolinas. After some time to reflect, I wanted to extend our sincerest gratitude to the Carolinas GCSA.

Before I do, I want to thank all the folks who stopped to say hi. Looking back at my notes, we were able to connect with over 60 show goers during the short amount of time on the trade floor. We had a few giveaways, including a TV and YETI cooler. Congratulations to Steve Shand from the Cliffs and Craig Walsh from Eagle Point on receiving those.

What the GCSAA provides not just for our VGM Club members, but also for our entire industry, is next to none. They really do it all - education, philanthropic endeavors, advocacy and more. The broader national association is at the forefront of what these types of organizations should provide. I know here at VGM Club, we strive to create a similar atmosphere for our members.

To focus more specifically on the Carolina GCSA chapter, I want to start by simply thanking them for all their support and allowing us to be a small part of their work. I did not have many moments to reflect during the conference and show, but when I did – I spent a large part, marveling at how much good the Carolinas GCSA does. I cannot thank the organization enough for letting us be a part of the conference and show, and I look forward to continuing to be involved in the years to come.

On the Carolinas GCSA website, the mission reads “Enabling members to excel and enhance the game of golf through responsible turfgrass management.” It reminds me that in order to have a successful organization – the work needs to reflect more than that.

At VGM Club we have a pretty popular adage we use to guide our work as well, “Saving time and money from the first tee to the 19th hole.” We cannot just provide a discount here or there. Just like the Carolinas, our organization needs to be a community for more. As we continue to grow and develop our community into all we believe it can be, the Carolinas GCSA is one of many local chapters we feel are great communities to model ours after.
